Hi Everyone. I did an advance search for Martin Luther and used the audience level to find books that were not to far over the 4th and 5th graders heads.  A couple of the books I suggested were My Life with Martin Luther King Jr because it looked like it might have some interesting tidbits. The Mitchell and Watertown Public Libraries both have copies of this book.  I also recommended the book A Dream of Freedom: the civil war movement from 1954 to 1958.  It looked like it explained the concept of the civil war as well as some of the events that happened during it.  This book is located at the, surprise the Bison Public Library as well as the Rapid City Library.

Well I did and advanced search for graphic novels and classic novels together with the limiter of books only and came up with The Hobbit by Chuck Dixon, David Wenzel, Sean Deming and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Ok you've got me on this one.  I will have to look at some other blogs to see if I can find how they did it.  Every way I tried to search brought up nothing.

Ok gave it another shot after finding a tip to also add Musical to the keywords with My Fair Lady as the Title, English language and musical scores as the limiter.  I think I found what the director would be looking for.  The accession number would be OCLC 750364538.  Would probably help if I understood anything about searching for musical scores a little more.  Thanks to the other blogger for the tip.

Hi, I'm working on the Proquest section.  I looked up lunar eclipse.  I can see that by being able to limit the search to a certain person and what they have written will cut down on a general search that brings up all sorts of articles. That will cut down on a lot of search time.  Even being able to search dates cuts out articles that are obsolete.  Nice to be able to narrow the parameters even when your not sure of the specific dates or person or other info.

I just read MarshaLytles  blog on her Proquest ideas.  I really liked the idea of saving money by not having to purchase lots of professional journals and just having your patrons look them up online.  Something I had not thought of.

I really enjoy reading everyone's blogs.  The things you look up give me idea's and new ways to search things.  And your idea's for helping patrons is very helpful in helping our patrons.  Keep up the good work.

I searched state lotteries for a patron and loved the fact that I could narrow the search to the specific states he was interested in as well as what subject, school financing,  to find just the articles he was looking for.  There are so many options to choose from to narrow the search even more.

For the patron looking for a new career but who has no high school diploma.  I think I would show him the GED area so he could take the practice test. After the test he would know which area's he needed more work on and could find more course guides and preparation  e-books to help him prepare for the real test in the area's he may be having trouble in. After that I think looking at the Career Guidance e-books would be a good way for him to check out a career he may be interested in.

I guess I would direct her to the job skills section of Express Learning.  If she needs updating in writing, public speaking or another skill this would be a good place to read up on them and take practice tests.  I would also see if she wanted to check out the resume help section so she could update her resume and even check out the interview help section.

First I would have him go to the jobs and careers section and look under the nursing section for career guidance e-books. He can find info on what it takes to be a nurse or pharmacist as well as other careers in the medical field.  He could also take the practice test just to see what they involve.  If he went to the career search section he could search for more info on what he wants out of a career in nursing.

Looking at the World book Reference Source.  Checked out both the Fairy tales and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.  I like the way they list the different references and what they are, like 1 website, 3 e-books or 8 encyclopedias.  People can do a whole research project from one location.  Also love the fact that you can easily put the citation right into your paper.  Think of all the note cards saved!
Checked out World Book Online Finder today.  Another great site.  Our class teacher was looking for info on the Titanic for our next reading workshop.  I looked under the virtual tours and found a tour of the Titanic when they discovered it.  There were also links to museum tours and teacher's resources for projects and lessons.  Very fun site to look around in.

Hi Everyone, I did the World Book Kids Challenge yesterday and loved it.  I searched in games and found several games to help children with math, grammar and geography.  The second grade teacher I work with was really excited when I showed her what was on the site.  We had two children play some of the games and they really enjoyed them.  One even asked if he could come back and play again later.

I also checked out the maps.  I liked all the information about the population, weather, rainfall and such that was easily checked once you found the country you were looking for.  I checked on South Korea because that is where my son and his family will be stationed at in August.  Looks like they are in for some cold winters.

The Science projects were very interesting also.  Great resource when a parent doesn't have any idea where to start.
