I was looking for things to do with dinosaurs and fossils to teach children that we can learn things from the past and how things change. I found a very nice article

Week #3 Volcanoes From the home page I clicked on the pictures icon and then searched volcanoes and came up with 105 photos. Another way to find photos was to click on the science picture on the homepage then on the side bar click the weather, climate, natural disasters tab, then check the volcanic eruptions tab. I came up with 169 graphics.
SIRS Issues
I did a search on suicide with another keyword of prevention. Then on the side bar I clicked on websites. It brought up a total of 32 sites but I didn't think some of them had the prevention ideas that educators were looking for. I did find several sites that I thought were perfect for what they needed. save.org, samhsa.gov, afsp.org. I found this to be a very quick and easy way to find quality knowledge on suicide prevention. On a Google search I feel you would have to really verify each website to make sure it was a legit site.
I search under water use, water supply and water conservation so I would have some different views to present to at the meeting.

Week #3
I did the advanced search using solar system with a reading level of easy and the lexile going from smallest to largest. I didn't really think many of the results were what I was looking for but I did find two that I liked. Mars is more than just a candy bar and Our solar system. The second link even had pictures and a practice quiz that I thought would be handy.

I found Common Core Standard 3.0A, Represent and Solve problems involving multiplication and division. I think the students could use the Multiplication practice test as practice for the real test. Also I thought the teacher could use some of the practice problems from the e-book Basic Math in 15 minutes a day as a daily practice of different skills that the children need to learn and remember.
In the Learning Library Express Challenge the fourth grader with the reading comprehension help I would have sent her to the Reading comprehension practice excercise section, the 4th grade FCAT reading practice questions and to the $th grade Reading Practice informational text #1. Lots of practice resources.
for the high school looking to improve her office manager skills I would have recommended she check out the E-Book on reasoning skills success in 20 minutes a day. Going to the Career Course on succeeding on the job. The other E-book The Complete Professional. I also felt that listening is a necessary skill in the work place so check out the E-test on listening practice. And to help her develop a winning resume check out the Career Course on creating great resumes.
For the student doing the report on nursing vs. pharmacology I would have him look at the E-Book Becoming A Nurse and the Pharmacy Technician Book. He could also take a the practice exams for both nursing and the admissions test for pharmacology. I think that would be a great way to compare the two fields.

For the World Book Kids site exploration I decided to compare places since our class is learning about the state of South Dakota. I thought it would be interesting to compare it to other states so that the children could see the differences in populations and land mass size. I really liked that you could click on the state and find interesting facts and photos to show the kids. They love pictures. This is a great site for comparing countries so kids can really see the differences.

| STANDARD | 3.L.1.3. | Students are able to describe life cycles, including growth and metamorphosis, of familiar organisms. | |||
| The School addition of World Book Advanced would be a great way to introduce metamorphosis to children in the third and fourth grades. The article explains the process and then the children could watch a video of the life cycle of a frog. |
I really like the World Book Explains feature in the World Book Discover reference tools. I have found with the 3rd graders even though they can read about something in an encyclopedia and even see a picture they much prefer videos. They just seem to get so much more information from them. So I could see using these videos to go along with what we are studying in class.
World book Advanced E-Book Center is a great resource for doing research. I looked up Andersen's Fairy Tales and found the tools very useful. I work with a child who has a hard time reading so her comprehension is not as good as it should be when she reads to herself. The read aloud tool would work great for her. I also like the fact that they have the fairy tales right there in the book but when you need to do a research paper they have other facts that are easily accessible and related. Saves a lot of time searching when it is already done for you.
