Hi, I'm working on the Proquest section. I looked up lunar eclipse. I can see that by being able to limit the search to a certain person and what they have written will cut down on a general search that brings up all sorts of articles. That will cut down on a lot of search time. Even being able to search dates cuts out articles that are obsolete. Nice to be able to narrow the parameters even when your not sure of the specific dates or person or other info.
I just read MarshaLytles blog on her Proquest ideas. I really liked the idea of saving money by not having to purchase lots of professional journals and just having your patrons look them up online. Something I had not thought of.
I really enjoy reading everyone's blogs. The things you look up give me idea's and new ways to search things. And your idea's for helping patrons is very helpful in helping our patrons. Keep up the good work.
I searched state lotteries for a patron and loved the fact that I could narrow the search to the specific states he was interested in as well as what subject, school financing, to find just the articles he was looking for. There are so many options to choose from to narrow the search even more.
Great discoveries, hopeful! We think ProQuest basic search is extremely powerful when you use the limiters and suggested topics. We love the cover-to-cover 24/7 issue coverage, and yes, it could save your libraries $. Thanks for your comments!
ReplyDeleteHello hopeful,
ReplyDeleteI think everyone is looking to save money these days and even patrons who used to be able to have their own subscriptions to professional journals are having to cut back.
